The Joint Admission and Matriculation Board, JAMB has announced 2017/2018 cut-off marks for admissions into the higher institutions in Nigeria.

The cut-off mark for University applicants is pegged at a minimum of 120 while 100 marks are agreed as the minimum cut-off marks into Polytechnics.

The board agreed that October 15 is the closing date for admissions into first choices while second choices are pegged to close on December 15, 2017, by all higher institutions in the country.

The system was reached by the board, University's' Vice Chancellors, Polytechnics' Rectors and Provosts of Colleges of Education. However, the cut-off marks are only set as minimum considerable marks for admissions, schools can separately set whatever marks they considered better.

According to the JAMB Registrar, Prof. Isiaq Oloyede "What JAMB has done is to recommend; we will only determine the minimum, whatever cut-off mark is your decision.

He further said that Senate and academic staff of various universities are allowed to pick their cut-off marks though should not be below the agreed cut-off mark.

The Registrar disclosed that about 17,160 students were illegally admitted into higher institutions in the last academic calendar. However, a lot has been done to regularized the students.

"30% of those in higher institutions do not take JAMB or have less than the cut-off marks, Prof. Oloyede insisted.
