There is a rise in political tensions in the state capital of Osun State, Osogbo today following the arrest of All Progressive Congress, APC chieftain in the state , Alhaji Fatai Diekola and six others for an alleged break of public peace.
Alhaji Fatai Diekola was detained by the state police command after he shown up to a police summon on him. He arrived the state police headquarter, Oke Fia, Osogbo around 11:0PM today amidst thousands of supporters who accompanied him in a solidary trek to the police headquarter. His arrest is being considered to be politically motivated by the state governor Rauf Aregbesola.
The Public Relation Officer of Osun State Police Command, Mrs Folashade Ojo refused to comment on the arrest.
Also arrested was one former Local Government Boss of Ejigbo Local Government, the local council where APC aspirant in the last saturday Osun West Senatorial bye election, Senator Mudashir Hussein hail from. Six other politicians were said to have been arrested but their names could not be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
Alhaji Fatai Diekola has been a major indomitable crack in the Osun State Chapter of APC. He is leading movement against the wish of Governor Rauf Aregbesola to impose Lagos-base candidates on the people of the state. He was noticed to have highly used his political forces to influenced the election that produced Otunba (Dr) Ademola Adeleke Osun West Senator-elect last saturday though Diekola is from Osun Central Senatorial District. However, his lawyer Chief Bukola Onifade has appeal for his bail following his ill state of health.
Chief Onifade also alarmed that the police command had charged Alhaji Diekola to court but no magistrate has shown interest to hear the petition levelled against him. Alhaji Diekola is known to be battling partial stroke related ailment which may be worsen if detained for too long.
