The Chairman of Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs and Sultan of Sokoto of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar Abubakar has announced Friday, September 1st, 2017, as Eil-el-Kabir day.

This was made known in a statement released by Prof. Sambo Junaidu, the Chairman, Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs to the Sokoto Sultanate Council. Alhaji Junaidu related the announcement as an act in accordance to the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijja on Tuesday.

Eld-el-Kabir was being expected to be celebrated on second-day of September but it is not new that Islamic activity is generally decided by natural occurrences, mostly the lunar system.

"The advisory committee in conjunction with the National Committee on Moon Sighting received various reports on moon sighting across the country confirming the sighting of the new moon of Zulhijja on Tuesday, August 22, 2017," Aljahi Junaidu stated.

The Sultan of Sokoto, however, wishes all Muslims a blissful celebration and encourage the Muslim ummah to keep living in peace.
